The Balance reports that Walmart leads at the top within worldwide and national retailers, per the World's Biggest Retail Chains List.
The publication cited Walmart's presence at the top worldwide, along with Costco and Kroger, from Deloitte's 2016 Global Powers of Retailing report.
The Balance added that it was the first time in 10 years that the top three worldwide-ranking companies are U.S.-based.
According to Walmart's website, the company's total retail units within the United States equals 4,692 as of April 30, 2017. This includes Walmart Supercenters, Discount Stores, Neighborhood Markets, Small Formats and Sam's Clubs.
Other countries where Walmart is present includes: Argentina, Botswana, Brazil, Canada, China, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Japan, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mexico, Mozambique, Namibia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Zambia.
